Her love of being a tourist in her own city, the charming images she shares on Instagram and the friendship that unites us led us to set Filipa this challenge, which was accepted enthusiastically. In Lisbon in Us by Filipa Garcia, this young “alfacinha” (inhabitant of Lisbon) reveals her feelings for this city and her passion for discovering new sensations and places.
I was born and have always lived here, so Lisbon will always be my city, the place I carry in my heart.
For me, living in Lisbon is feeling the vibrancy and bustle of the city; it’s observing the multitude of people who arrive here in the morning to go to work and leave in the late afternoon; it’s seeing the heart of the city fill up with tourists who are curious and fascinated by our culture.
I love being a tourist in my own city. I like going to the viewpoints, strolling through the city’s most iconic gardens, walking along the river in the Belém area, visiting museums and monuments and, once in a while, eating a beautiful and delicious pastel de nata (egg custard). Lisbon is a city that is constantly changing, which makes it an excellent destination to discover new places and experience new sensations.
The capital is full of different colours and textures. Its typical Portuguese pavement and the different tiles and mosaics make this city extraordinary and gifted in culture. Each street has its own story, each path is unique and Portugal’s pleasant spring-like climate invites you to explore every corner of this magnificent city. At night, the historic quarters are filled with liveliness. Bairro Alto and Santos are the favourite places to celebrate the night, not only for tourists, but also for the Portuguese.
My love for travelling and discovering new places, especially in Lisbon, has inspired me to create content and publish it on social media. On my Instagram profile, I like to show my followers the new spaces I’m discovering and the different scenarios of the city I’m exploring. Because, to me, this is Lisbon!
The Lisbon I take with me is welcoming and rich in history and culture. It is the capital where the old became fashionable. It’s a city full of life and places to fall in love with.
