About Us

Sharing with you the most peculiar aspects of Lisbon, without neglecting its landmarks, is what excites us the most in this project that was born in 2017.

We develop knowledge about the material and immaterial cultural heritage of this city, making it available on our website.

getLISBON differentiates itself, offering comprehensive content with a great focus on the most unknown and peculiar aspects.

Our target is the reader who seeks to know the origins, history, curious facts and original and unknown observations that the city provides.

Thus, we are guided by creative, appealing, accessible and, at the same time, rigorous and trustworthy content.

Our aim is to:

  • Effectively establish ourselves as an active agent in cultural promotion and the valorization of our heritage;
  • Contribute to the construction of future memory, leaving a testimony of today’s Lisbon;
  • Share the richness of this city internationally by publishing articles in English as well.

We aim to explore the city from various perspectives, from the history of Lisbon to the embrace of the Tagus River, from the personalities and people who have left their mark, to the events and cultural manifestations that take place here, as well as the aromas and flavours of its gastronomy…

We have also created two new distinctive series that greatly enrich the content of our website:

Lisbon in Us – a space for first-person stories, where the common denominator is the city and its human heritage. The way we live it, how we see it, the importance we give to it, the unusual stories, the memories, the feelings…

getLISBON invites
 – came about as a result of the idea of turning our cultural project into a broader space for sharing knowledge. Here, authors from different areas are challenged to publish their work, always with the city of Lisbon as the main topic.

In 2021 and again in 2023, we received a modest financial support from the Lisbon City Council. For us, this is a recognition of the quality and consistency of our work and, undoubtedly, an incentive to continue our efforts.

The year 2023 marked a turning point for our project. We launched our first physical publication, the book of bookmarks LISBOA MARCA, through a successful crowdfunding campaign. This publication offers readers an original way to discover and explore some of the iconic themes of the city of Lisbon, such as the Triumphal Arch of Praça do Comércio, the Belém Tower, the Funiculars, or the Portuguese Pavement. It also delves into unexpected aspects like the unique WC Kiosks, the “Entalados,” or the Light

The featured themes are illustrated by five artists (Ana Ramos, Bruno Vieira, Filipe Botelho, Isa Silva, and Jolanta Rikveile Mourinha) and presented in a 10 x 21cm book format, consisting of 18 detachable sheets that can be used as bookmarks. In addition to providing a brief introductory text for each theme, QR codes allow access to related articles on getLISBON for more detailed information.

Published in both Portuguese and English, it serves as an excellent keepsake for visitors or a unique gift for those who love this city.

In 2024, we launched our online store, getLISBON shop, not only to make this project sustainable but also to offer other ways of promoting the city of Lisbon. This includes Collectibles (books, CDs, postcards), Walking Tours and Guided Visits, Artist-designed pieces, and works by artists.
Note: The Walking Tours and Guided Visits in our shop are only available in Portuguese. However, private or individual English-speaking tours can be arranged. Contact us!
Available themes:

– Italian Lisbon for Music Lovers guided by Luís Lopes

Support us by purchasing our products so that we can continue to promote Lisbon’s heritage!

All this effort and knowledge sharing is meaningless without our readers. Be part of this project by contributing with your opinions here! 🙂

Gracinda e Teresa – Two Friends, One Project

We’re two old friends, Gracinda Gomes and Teresa Mouro, who met in Lisbon in the 80s, during our Graphic Design education. After over 30 years we returned to the same place to celebrate our friendship and our project, getLISBON (started in 2018).

We’re two old friends, Gracinda Gomes and Teresa Mouro, who met in Lisbon in the 80s, during our Graphic Design education.

At that time, in order to capture some images for the photography course, we decided to venture into Alfama. We were looking for picturesque corners and unique details.

We were far from imagining what the future held for us…

From then, life gave us many experiences and learning opportunities, such as Image and Communication (Gracinda) and History of Art (Teresa).

After over 30 years we returned to the same place to celebrate our friendship and our project, getLISBON (started in 2018).

Here we share our passions with you, including unusual, curious and meaningful details about this storytelling city that has fascinated us for so long.

Join us on this adventure!

P.S.: Thank you to our friend Isaura and our guest of Lisbon in Us, Ryoko Inamura, who took the pictures in 1987 and 2021, respectively. ????
